Two major engineering entrance examinations are used for admission to engineering institutes across India, Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) and All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE).
JEE Main is the first exam that comes to our mind when we talk about top engineering entrance exams in India. This national level exam is one of the most competitive with more than 10 lakh students appearing for it every year. The exam is a gateway for admission to the NITs, IIITs and CFTIs and the first stage of the JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) system for admissions to the premier IITs in India; the second being JEE Advanced.

The application forms for most of the top engineering entrance exams in India to be held in 2020 have been released by their respective exam conducting authorities. One of the most common queries asked by candidates is regarding the important dates, exam pattern, syllabus etc of one or multiple exams. But with more than 50 engineering exams currently being conducted in the country, this confusion is likely to prevail. Check out important details regarding top engineering entrances exams in India.
1. JEE Main: This is one of the most popular engineering entrance exam in India. From 2020, the exam is getting held twice a year – in January and in April by NTA (National Testing Agency). Till 2018, JEE Main exam was being conducted by CBSE. JEE Main 2020 for January session was conducted between 6-11 and result for the same has been declared. The JEE Exam 2020 for April session will now be conducted on September 1-6.
2. JEE Advanced: The second stage of the JEE system, JEE Advanced is conducted once a year by the seven zonal IITs with guidance from the Joint Admission Board (JAB). The exam scores are used for admissions to BTech programmes offered by 24 IITs in India. Remember, only the top 2.5 lakh rank holders of JEE Main will be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2020 which is scheduled to be held September 27, 2020.
3. BITSAT: Conducted by Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani, BITSAT is a computer based test (CBT) conducted annually for admission to Integrated First degree programmes like BE, Pharma and MSc programmes offered by BITS campuses located at Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad. BITSAT 2020 is postponed for now. New dates for the exam will be announced soon.
4. VITEEE: One of the most popular institute level BTech exam, VITEEE is conducted by the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) for admissions to its BTech programmes. VITEEE 2020 will be held online. VIT University has cancelled the VITEEE 2020 and admission to its various campuses will be based on the marks obtained by candidates in class 12.
5. SRMJEEE: SRM Institute of Science & Technology conducts SRMJEEE for admissions to BTech programmes offered by its campuses in Kattankulathur, Ramapuram, Vadapalani and Delhi-NCR. SRMJEEE 2020 will be held online across 125 test centres in India and few centres in Middle-east. SRM Institute of Science & Technology has cancelled the SRMJEEE 2020 and admission to its various campuses will be based on the marks obtained by candidates in class 12.
6. COMEDK: Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMED K) conducts COMEDK UGET (Undergraduate Entrance Test), a state-level examination. The exam scores are used for admissions to interested candidates in engineering and medical degree courses offered by colleges/institutes that are affiliated to COMEDK. COMEDK 2020 exam will be held online on August 19.
7. KIITEE: Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Bhubaneswar conducts Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology Entrance Examination (KIITEE) to offer admissions to candidates to its undergraduate as well as postgraduate programmes. KIITEE 2020 will be held at more than 60 test centres spread across various states in the country. The exam was conducted from July 24 to July 28. All other dates to be announced soon by the authority.
8. WBJEE: West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) is a state level examination conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB). The exam is a gateway for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered in Engineering & Technology, Architecture and Pharmacy courses by colleges in the state. WBJEE 2020 exam will be conducted in July, the authorities are expected to release the detailed schedule soon.
9. MHTCET: Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT CET) is conducted by the DTE (Directorate of Technical Education), Maharashtra for admissions to first year Engineering and Technology programmes (BE/BTech) and Pharmacy programmes (BPharma/PharmaD) in the state. MHT CET 2020 has been postponed and new dates regarding the exam and other events will be announced by the exam conducting authority soon.
10. BCECE (Scrapped): Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examinations Board (BCECEB) conducted Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination (BCECE) for admissions to engineering, medical and agricultural courses offered by institutes located in the Bihar. The exam was scrapped for BTech courses in the year 2019, admissions to engineering programmes in the state is through JEE Main.
